Meet the Blake Landscapes Team: Matt Coughlin, Project Manager

Matt Coughlin first came to work at Blake Landscapes in 2001, just after his first child was born.  Matt later left the company and spent a few years working as an independent horticultural consultant but rejoined the Blake Landscapes team in the fall of 2011.

“I’m excited to be back at Blake, particularly with everything I learned while working as a consultant with the County of Loudoun’s horticulture program,” Matt said.

“I wasn’t looking for a job with another landscape company until this new opportunity with Blake came along.  But all you need to do is look at the low turnover here as compared to other landscape companies to know that it’s a good place to work.  Many of my co-workers have been with Blake Landscapes for more than 10 years.  You don’t find that kind of continuity at other companies in this business.”

Matt is a graduate of Virginia Tech who got his start in landscaping with a small Round Hill-based company in the early 1990′s.  He has also worked as a journalist with the local newspaper Leesburg Today and still takes on freelance writing projects from time-to-time.   Matt takes detailed notes when speaking with clients and looks for horticulturally-sound, long-term solutions to every landscape challenge.

A Loudoun County native, Matt lives in Leesburg with his wife Kim and their sons Jake, Nick and Brett.  He enjoys taking his kids camping and fishing and coaching Little League baseball.  Matt is also a member of the Central Loudoun Little League board of directors and of the Evergreen United Methodist Church board of trustees.
